The University of Waterloo Formula Motorsports team hosted an event in conjunction with Engineering Science Quest. Team members mentored grade five and six students as they engineered balloon powered cars. Through this design experience, participants faced challenges similar to those encountered building an FSAE car. After much experimentation and testing, the kids put their creations to the test with a race. We then got the chance to show off our creation: the 2013 UW Formula Motorsports car.
The University of Waterloo Formula Motorsports team is pleased to reintroduce the team YouTube channel. The last video uploaded was in 2010 and has not seen much usage since. Competition videos from Formula North 2013 have been uploaded and are available for your viewing pleasure. We will be uploading videos archived from past seasons as well. Videos can be found through our YouTube alias, UWFormulaStudent.
With the gorgeous sunny weather and both competitions completed, summer marks an important time in our race season: testing. We had the opportunity to take our car to the Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Research Complex, and put it in a low speed wind tunnel. We were able to validate the CFD model of our car and do flow visualization to better understand the behaviour of our aerodynamics package.
On October 7th, the team went out to Mosport to compete at the U of T shootout. We had some issues with the car but we managed to get some good laps in. At the end of the day we came back with an award, Mr. Plow! Watch the video below for a lap around the Mosport Kart Track during the competition. Driving and video credits go to Michael!
